This is the discussion topic for the story that I am writing, called Shelly's Story. I toyed with a whole lot of different titles, but I couldn't really come up with anything else that fit, so this just stuck. What kind of story is Shelly's Story, you ask? Well, I'm going to say the words "buffy fanfic," but please don't all you anti-buffy people run away so quickly. Because here's what my story is.
Have you ever been watching TV and the characters on the show find themselves in a situation, and then you find yourself thinking, What would I be doing in that situation? That's what I found myself doing every time I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So every time I watched the show, I imagined in my head what I would be doing. But then the more I imagined such things, the more the person I was imagining became less and less me. The stuff that the girl in my head was doing was no longer what I would actually be doing in the same situation most of the time. I was no longer imagining what I would do, but my own original character, who I could not help but name Shelly. So I figured, if I was going to imagine what Shelly was doing in the episodes, I may as well give her a backstory. And make up important events that happen to her between the Buffy episodes. So I did. And that's what this story is. It's the story of what if there was this other character, this other "Scooby" in the Buffyverse.
What's really nifty is that the story is going to be (for the most part anyway) from Shelly's point of view. The reader doesn't have to know anything about what happens on the show, because they can learn it as Shelly learns it. The story starts before she ever even meets any of the Buffy characters, so anyone new to the Buffyverse can meet them along with her. I wanted it to be a story that anyone can understand, not just Buffy fans.
I think I'll probably end up posting the story one chapter at a time, as I finish them. Maybe sometimes I'll get multiple chapters out at once, I'm not sure. I'm trying to plan the exact story in a seperate outline as I write the story, so then it'll never take me too long to get a chapter out, since I'll already know what's going to happen exactly, and then I just have to write it. We'll see how it works out.
The story will have its own seperate topic, and then this is the topic for any discussion of the story. I will be happy to answer any questions anyone has about my story and even more happy to hear any feedback, good or bad, that anyone can give me. Thanks!
I should hopefully have the Prologue up by tomorrow night at the latest.
