ok, here's my take.
The world was once a land full of advanced technology. Wonders of science and magic ruled in a time of peace, and a great civilisation flurished.
Then the great wars came.
In the end, the greatest super powers destroyed themselves, sending the world back almost two thousand years.
Our story takes place around 175 years after the last great war. Technology remains, but it is mainly a forgoten art. Magic is the power of the day. Villages and cities exist without any true rulership, some as dirty slums, others as small to medium gatherings of a failing people.
It is a dangerous time to be alive. Theives and animals run rapent in the forests. Monsters, created from the aftermath of the great wars, now hunt this world for the taste of human flesh. Villages supply protection the best they can, but they seem too disorganised to command true respect.
This new world needs a strong leader, one who can stand above the odinary citizens to become a leader. A hero. A king.
Will it be you?
Wow.... I'm good....

Frightning, but... I agree... Maybe we could also have some sort of extraplanetary force acting upon the world because they are interested in the planet's magic... they disguise themselves as ordinary people. You could even opt to be one of them. Perhaps join a group of natives, learn that they are not bad people, and rise up against your superiors?

I personally love Dave's idea. You are a freaking genius! I approve.
Dave, you wrote in red and it threw me off, 'cause Matt usually writes in red...lol

Dave, your idea is absolutely captivating.
A bit cliche, but captivating.
Mike, your addition is a bit...odd.

Just to spin a little bit of what Dave did.
The world was once a land full of advanced technology. Wonders of science and magic ruled in a time of peace, and great civilizations flurished.
Then the Great Wars came.
A melding of science and magic was created to combat opposing sides of the battles, hoping to create complacent beasts to battle for them.
In the end, the experiments went wrong, causing chain explosions all over the world, sending the world back almost two thousand years and breeding horrible creatures that prey on people.
Our story takes place two centuries after the last great war. Technology remains, but it is mainly a forgotten art. Magic is the power of the day. Villages and cities exist without any true rulership, some as dirty slums, others as small gatherings of a failing people.
It is a dangerous time to be alive. Theives and animals run rampent in the forests. Monsters, created from the aftermath of the Great Wars, now hunt this world for the taste of human flesh. Villages supply protection as best they can, but they seem too disorganized to command true respect.

I don't understand this part
"A melding of science and magic was created to combat opposing sides of the battles, hoping to create complacent beasts to battle for them."

Meaning that they tried to combine science and magic.
To create monsters that would do their bidding.

My addition means that there are other planets out there with advanced enough technology for space travel. These people are not capible of magic power. So when they find the planet that the RPG takes place on, they want to learn the secrets of magic to further their own power. Just think of an episode of Star Trek where the Enterprise finds itself on an underdeveloped planet. But instead of the story taking place from to point of view of the Enterprise crew, it takes place in the point of view of the people of the underdeveloped planet. I just thought that could add an extra direction, some more depth to play with. If you hate the idea... don't use it... EVER!!! It's the basis for my story/manga/game/anime/movie/cereal. *I use the term 'underdeveloped' because it seems like tech lays in waste here.

Mmm. . . I like Dave's idea with Winston's little twist.
And I was confused too Dave! Way to steal Matt's color so it looks all. . . Matt-like!

Plus its kind of odd, and has no real purpose.

Like confusion about the style choice for Wind Waker when you see my story in motion, you go, "Oh. I get it now." So, until then, don't use it since you are so opposed to it.

Or you could just PM me with the reason you are proposing this idea of which I obviously dont see the fitting for in the setting.

I was refering to when my story, in what ever form it gets published in, gets published. You need not concern yourself with it now. I was only trying to be helpful.
